Do I tip? Do I leave a gratuity?

Tipping - Am I supposed to tip my photographer? Am I supposed to tip my makeup artist (MUA)?

We’ve all been there- that situation where you’re questioning, “Do I tip? Do I not? If I do tip, how much do I tip? Cash? Venmo? Credit card?” So many questions. and options can make you feel paralyzed. You want to compensate the service worker appropriately but what’s appropriate?

At nail salons, hair salons, and restaurants, we know what to do. Tip! 20% of your total is standard, cash or money transfer apps are preferred whenever possible. And any time you can avoid using a credit card and that additional service charge.

But what about when you’re getting your senior pictures or headshots done? Do you add gratuity?

Here’s the 411. Yes, photographers are in the service industry. Each photographer is different, some photographers may expect or welcome a gratuity. Bridgette encourages her clients to tip her wonderful MUA as they see fit.

Okay great! But you still want to show your appreciation to your photographer! What are your options? Be creative! Consider bringing a delicious latte or lemonade from a local coffee shop or support your photographer’s business by sharing a social media post and posting a five-star review to Google or Yelp.

Something seemingly inconsequential as this does so much to support your photographer. 

Bottom Line? Some service workers appreciate your gratitude being shared monetarily, others prefer it when you support and share their business with others.
