Will a headshot make my resume stand out?

Before diving into the wild world of job hunting, it’s time to update that resume. As we update our resumes, we want to find ways to stand out to make our (fingers crossed) future employer pause on our application. Anyone can tell you that can be a significant challenge when hundreds of other applicants hope for the same position with very similar credentials and resumes.

So how can you separate your resume from others?

It can be as simple as adding an updated headshot to the top right or left-hand corner of your resume next to your contact information. A headshot is the new cover letter.

Why? Times are changing. Our world is continually becoming more visual-centric in communications. A study on social media content and engagement found that “faces are 38% more likely to receive likes and 32% more likely to receive comments.” The U.S. Library of Medicine found that “well-designed and chosen visual content will make users 80% more likely to read the written content.”

People are engaging more with visually heavy content and resumes are no different. Your polished and unique headshot on your resume will give those employers pause and one pause is what you need to stand out in the crowd.
